Alu Ibérica La Coruña
La Coruña, located in the extreme northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, is a key communications hub in Western Europe, which has helped it become a logistics and industrial hub of the first magnitude. The Alu Ibérica plant uses this strategic position to produce and market an annual production of 60,000 tons of billets and 20,000 of metallurgical pulp, which will grow to 100,000 and 30,000 tons respectively, once the industrial plan is completed. Historically destined for the Iberian market, the plant begins a new stage with an export vocation and with a commitment to sustainability that has already begun to materialize with several new actions in equipment, plants and infrastructures.
At the end of 2020, the company received a significant grant from INEGA, the Energetic Institute of Galicia, contributing to the financing of the conversion of the factory to natural gas and the acquisition of a reflow oven, two measures that will allow energy savings of 978 toe/year (equivalent tons of oil/year) and a reduction in CO2 emissions of 7,879 tCO/year. In addition, it is already moving its logistics operations to the outer port of Punta Langosteira, optimizing the reception and shipment of recycled metal.
